NFEG National Fire Estates Group – Benchmarking Round 2
The second round of benchmarking for the National Fire Estates Group was introduced at the NFEG Conference in Scotland at the National Training Centre in Cambuslang on the 4th of June 2025.
Following on from the success of the first benchmarking exercise where thirteen fire services submitted data, the questionnaire is now open until the end of September 2025.
Access can be via the QR code below or following this link https://forms.office.com/e/UmTLiaaLvh

Contaminant control is a major concern for us all, so the first section covers this topic before continuing on to look at new build and refurbishment projects.
The finance section deals with budget questions for the 2025/26 property capital allocation and a series of questions for 2025/26 revenue allocation, split by category to let you use parts of the data to focus on specific areas if you want to.
We are also asking you to share your multi-year capital plans and also your property structure, including in-house works team if you have one. Your capital plans in particular will inform other services of potential projects that they can learn from your experience and provide opportunities to share best practice and lessons learned. The data for these two sections can also be uploaded to the Benchmarking folder within NFEG Workplace Workplace – Documents if you find it simpler to share documents.
The results of this questionnaire will be discussed at the NFEG meeting on 13th October, taking place as part of the Fire Station Design and Construction Workshop, and will be shared with participating Services in excel format as well as PowerPoint.
Its important to stress that you do not need to populate all the fields if you do not have particular data and no fields are mandatory; the more participation, the more useful the exercise is.
Benchmarking data can be extremely important in giving context to any issues you want to highlight within your own estate. For example, using revenue funding examples from other services can illustrate an argument for additional funding allocation.
